Aaarrrggghhh! I check my kids hair daily for little visitors and found my youngest crawling with the little blighters. 3 walkers and 30 eggs! Removed all and have coated with hedrin. Why do peeps not treat/check their kids hair?!!!!!!grrrr, my hubbie had to take today off as they are not allowed to go in with livestock. It's always the same **** people who bring it in and give it to everyone else! Teachers hands are tied and all they can do is issue a general letter! When my hubbie worked in the children's home, they were in trouble for refusing a teenager access to the lounge till shed treated her hair with nit stuff. Apparently it was about the dignity of the child. What about the dignity of the other kids and their right not to have unwanted guests! Hopefully well have seen the back of them! Rant over!

Hi, horrible:grumpy: but been there and done that, with my own daughter, she's 13 now, and the very worse one was my blonde long haired granddaughter who had a massive amount of the little blighters having a party on her head, saw them when we were in the middle of our town centre, so what happened? my grown up daughter decided to come back to my house and went through each sections of my GD's hair with conditioner and a nit comb, in my front room, lovely:eek: I remember the days of the nit nurse, gosh I'm itching nowo_O

Yes the nit nurse, gosh fancy I had forgotten that :arghh:

Yes, unfortunately it was another government cut... Oops I mean saving!:greedy::confused:
Worked really well coz we don't have periodic epidemics at all now!

Awful little things .....not the kids ;) x
Have you met my kids! Lol! Actually they are lovely! Most of the time! Checked her hair when I got in and only found 2 more so I'd done a good job in removing them. Still put the chemical stuff on to make sure. And checked the other one. Didn't find any so fingers crossed!

Aaaaahhhh! I well remember those days, one of my sons used to get them time and again, the other one didn't at all. Nits didn't bother me too much....now when he had threadworms.....yuck.

Found one more egg this morning in her fringe! Trouble is we know 3 lots of people who regularly don't treat. Why??!!!!! My brother in law used to use t-tree oil and conditioner! Poor kid never managed to get rid of them! It's my youngest who generally gets them although to be fair she's probably had them 4 times in 2 years. Worms! Yuck! Youngest is going to school with chip pan hair! I have washed it thoroughly but it always takes 2 washes.

I had the same problem when my 3 boys were in primary school. My eldest 2 were always getting them and I had to treat their hair at least 2 - 3 times a month sometimes. I used to get so angry as, like yourself, it was the same kids who 'brought them in' and the parents cba to treat them. I think I tried every lotion and potion available at the time. I did find that leaving a natural tea tree oil in their hair overnight and using tree tree shampoo & conditioner helped as the lice aren't supposed to like it.
I also remember the nit nurse when I was younger and her coming round to the house showing my mum how to check for and treat them, then my mum being upset that my brother had them.

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.

I used to completely rid my kids of them every half term (in between too) but one day back at school and they'd have them again, they'd be big ones too so I knew I hadn't just missed some eggs, nit comb time was part of the daily after school routine, ick hate the things, I remember the nit nurse, back then it was the biggest disgrace if you were caught with them and sent a letter home, today's parents don't seem to give a stuff. Also I asked my daughter's teacher if she could please put back in my daughter's hair bobble if it came out as keeping the hair tied out the way minimizes the spread to an extent, but she said by law they can't do that sort of thing nowadays!?
They do seem to diminish at secondary school finally tho

Remember those days well. I had three daughters all with long blonde hair, took me forever to get rid of them. Apparently they like clean hair.

In the past in the sanguine household fortunately, although daughter used to get a few when at junior school - Year Whatever That Is. I remember my parents' generation saying how humiliating it was in their days at school, not sure if it's just more widespread now. Anyway, the nit combs got recycled for use on the cats for fleas - much the same process I imagine. Scratch scratch ...

I think it's more widespread because they don't have regular checks. I don't actually remember it being humiliating but maybe because I never had them. I had that pleasure when I was teaching, we always got the nurse to check our hair as well.
I do remember in my final teaching practice (1973) there was one little girl that I only saw for a few days in the whole ten weeks. She was excluded with nits at the start of the period, came back, there was another inspection and she was excluded again. It may have helped the other 39 children in the class but didn't do much for her education.

Yes I've heard they like clean hair too......however it didn't stop them regularly infesting my son's head! So I don't think they are that bothered whose head they live on.

I think maybe that's what all the parents told themselves to save their shame.

But in those days the stuff was free so her parents should have sorted it out. I think it's really mean to leave your kids crawling with livestock. Some of these parents make me cross! My hubbie lost a full days overtime as they are not allowed in with walkers! I think it's the way little girls play! I understand why people don't get the stuff as it's the cost. I think it should come on prescription. People might feel more inclined to do something!
