Hi all, would like to ask your opinions regarding blood checking, how many times you check on a regular day? except of course when you have streinous activities or when you're sick. My 14 yr old usually check his number about 4-5 times a day, is it enough? I have read that many type1's tends to check their numbers like 7-12 times a day.
thanks!

I check before and after meals (6), before bedtime (1) and before I drive, so the same as Pilgrim22, minimum of 7.

I like checking mine before meals, 2 hrs after meal and bedtime but clinic said to only check before meals and at bedtime (my body, my strips so I still check more.) Definitely minimum of 7 times a day for me as well.

That's what our clinic said too, check every meals and before bedtime. We're obedient to our doctor I guess Lol! But anyway, I am trying to convince my son to check more frequently rather than 5 times, but he's very busy with school and with his pals. Teenagers! doesn't want their parents to get involved in managing their lives as well as diabetes.

Typical teen lol.

Just explain that you are saying check a couple of extra times so he doesnt have to worry so much as he gets a bit older as he will know how certain things will affect his BG and as I got older, spending time with friends (in the pub) was more exciting than checking my BG every couple of hours

I tried explaining everything to him, he just nod his head and smile. Sadly,Dexcom is not yet available here in my country. He was on a pump for only 4 days but he decided to go back on MDI after some high readings when he was on pump.

I would check regularly ... children seem to use so much energy up :p

I think you're getting a similar answer from all of us here - I check minimum 8 and very often more like 10-12

You're absolutely right! I'm trying to convince my boy to check more often. :)

I check before every meal and after exercising. It's 5-8 times daily (and yeah I am teen too)

I'm at least checking my BG levels 8 times a day as gives me more confidence in my understanding and look for patterns over a longer period of time.

Getting 4-5 tests a day out of a teen is pretty good. You got to be careful how hard you push

yes, somehow I'm glad he test minimum of 4-5 times daily. plus he does more checking when he's exercising and when on sick days. I guess that's enough for now. I will not push him too much, he might rebel on his management who knows?
@amar1921 good for you, keep it up! x
