Currently my biggest dislike is monitoring my blood glucose by finger pricking, it is a source of annoyance that outweighs so many things I could list as a dislike. Generally I can accept most things but since my diagnosis last October 2021 worries about my health are constant.
Over the weekend I have been diagnosed with a blood clot in my left leg (inner thigh and back of knee and calf) I have been prescibed Apixaban and have been told I would probably be taking them for the next 6 months. In the 3 days I have been taking the tablets I have been reading low blood glucose levels despite everything being the same - times of meal and monitoring etc- the consultant at the Hospital said there shouldn't be any problems with my blood glucose, but I am concerned as I can be within my range and within an hour experience low blood glucose without having taken any insulin or any carbs in that period of time. I am surprised how quickly it comes on, fortunately I've been indoors when I start getting the feelings of hypo. Has anybody any advice or had a similar problem? I have a Doctor's appointment in two days time so he should have the reports from A&E by then about the blood thinners and clot, he had referred me to A&E Friday afternoon anyway.

Looking on Drug.com at potential side effects:

Metabolic

Common (1% to 10%): Gout, diabetes mellitus, blood glucose increased, hyperglycemia, hypokalemia, decreased appetite

I have been taking it since February as I have AF so far it has shown no tendency to effect my blood sugar levels that I can tell.

I have been taking apixiban for three years after having a pulmonary embolism and had experiences of low blood pressure and dizziness. These have now passed, it was probably my body recovering from the PE.

Hi, I also had PE and took apixaban for a year I think, be careful if you have any accidents, I got squashed between two vans, the swelling and bruising wasn’t fun, I don’t think it had any noticeable effect on my bg, good luck.

I've been taking it for a year but it hasn't affected my blood glucose.
