Hi

As I am not 100% sure of things at the minute I just wanted to ask a question.

Most of today my lips have been numb, I have just checked my blood and its 4.4

I have eaten today, I also take 1x 500mg metformin tablet with my tea, not had one yet today, I am going onto 2 a day next month, and then 3 a day the month after.

Is 4.4 low and if so what should I do?

Thanks.

Darren

Yes......4.4 mmol/l is too low. Hypo territory is considered to be anything below 4 mmol/l. What you were probably experiencing was the symptoms of low blood sugar. I frequently feel the same way when I reach those lower levels........that is because I have 'hypo awareness,' my body is telling me that I need to do something because my Bg level is dropping. Therefore all I do is eat a small 'carby' snack to lift the levels to a more comfortable level....which for me is around 5-7 mmol/l. That's all you need to do.

If you have missed the warning signs and you are even lower than some fast acting carbs such as Lucozade, Glucotabs, Jelly Babies etc will lift the level more quickly. When at a better level then the 'carby' snack will stabilise your levels. This should alleviate the warning symptoms fairly quickly.
