Since diagnosis in September last year I’ve managed to get good pretty tight control of my blood sugars (4.8 - 6.8) with metformin, low carb & exercise. For the past 2 mornings I’ve woken up with blood sugars over 14. Testing at intervals through through the day show that the rest of the day I’m running at mid 5’s.
I eat my dinner around 6-6.30pm & don’t have supper other than a cup of chamomile tea just before bed. I sleep all night.
Is this something I need to see my practice nurse for (never seen dr or diabetic team as I’m not deemed complex) or can I manage it independently? My next review is at the end of the month & I am hoping to come off the metformin & manage with low carb & exercise only.
Diagnosis hba1c was 91, 3 months later 51 so was feeling in control.

This is very common. It is called "Dawn Phenomenon". Your body releases glucose into your blood to give you the energy to start your day.
For those with healthy full-functioning pancreas, their body reacts by releasing insulin to match.

Take a look around the forum about Dawn Phenomenon and you should find some tips about how to minimise this affect.
