Hi @pamK

Many of the type 2's who self-fund use the SD Codefree meter as the test strips cost around £7 a box of 50, however the Accu_Chek meters are extremely good and I can highly recommend them having used them for many a year.

Hi noblehead thanks for the reply can you please tell me which Accu_Chek meter you have as there are different ones Thanks

The Aviva, Nano and more recently before moving to a pump the Aviva Expert, there's been a few more but just can't recall the names at the moment @pamK

I have a Accu_Chek Performa meter which is at a reasonable price at the moment here in Australia, $40.00 money back so basically costs you nothing.

However if you are not a member of the NDSS in Australia the strips will cost $50.00 for 100. I pay $1.30 for 100 being a member of NDSS. This is coming to a end in the new year as T2's not on insulin are now stopped from getting them cheap. There is a way around this by getting my GP to put his sig and practise stamp on the form to get the subsidised ones.

Hope this helps.

noblehead Thanks will take a look at buying one tomorrow when i'm less tired I'm in the UK

Always worth ringing the manufacturer and ask if they'll send one out to you for free, they usually ask you first how many times you test a day to gauge whether they'll recuperate the cost of the meter from the test strips you'll purchase, being a type 1 who tests multiple times a day they were all too willing to send me one out :)

I have an Accu-Chek Aviva meter. On the plus side the readings are at least two points less than my main one, Glucolab but not that easy to take readings. You have to rest your bleeding finger on the strip and more than often error messages.

I was given them by the nurse and my GP. And we don't look gift horses in the mouth! lol
