Hi im new to this as just been diagnosed, i have type one and been put on Metformin, my question is do you have to get the equiptment to monitor BG at this stage or just go on a healthy diabetic diet that will keep your BG Down?
Can you confirm what type of diabetes you have?
Your avatar says “type 2” but your description says “type one”.
The answer to your question depends on the type of diabetes.
No matter if you are a T1 or T2 diabetic, you will need a testing meter and strips to have a idea of how you are managing it.my question is do you have to get the equiptment to monitor BG at this stage
Hi Mitch I notice on another thread that you have worries about funding a meter. Can you just let us known which medications you are on as some risk hypos (low blood sugars), in this case you should get testing kit on prescription, however if you’re just on Metformin then you won’t. It isn’t absolutely essential, but a lot of us have found it really useful to find out what foods suit us. If you do decide you can stretch to testing at least for a month or two then we can help you pick the most cost effective kit.
Buying a meter is a one off payment, @Rachox has a link for a reasonably cheap one and discount codes for the strips.Hey yes i would like to try get one
