Blood glucose numbers on lchf

I did a 7 day fast recently and after that have been keeping my fat intake to between 75-85%, carbs under 10% and the rest protein. I know urine ketone sticks aren’t all that reliable but from what I have read is they will show that you are producing ketones but not how much. They will also after a while stop showing ketones as the body adjusts to burning fat.

Today my ketostix were a little lighter so I’m assuming that I’m starting to get fat adapted. Even though I did a 7 day fast I’m sure I’m still not in nutritional ketosis. Since ending my fast I’ve had fasting bg’s ranging from 3.7-6.4 I have also made sure not to eat too much so I have been keeping under 2k calories.

What I would like to know from others that are in ketosis is, what should I look for in terms of bg levels? The only carbs I get are from above ground vegetables and a small handful of walnuts daily. Should I expect bg’s in the mid 3’s to low 4’s or can I expect to maybe see the odd higher numbers like I did this morning (6.4). My numbers today before dinner were 4.4 then 2hrs pp were 4.2 is this something others see as well? I’m thinking my morning number may have been skewed as I forgot to wash my hands first. I’m running low on strips so I didn’t wash and recheck. By mid afternoon I was getting 4.9.

How long after the fast and starting lchf in Ernest should I see some weight loss? My bg’s are definitely trending in the right direction and over the course of the day remain quite even.

I’m type 2 diagnosed about 7 years ago. My Hba1c last month was 6.1 and my fasting blood glucose at the time of draw was 7.3 I’m looking forward to hearing the results of others.

Cheers.

Your numbers are pretty **** good.. These days following a sub 20g of carb (most days) regime I usually live in the low 5's. I dip into the high 4's if i skip lunch and rarely get 6 or over. If I fast or eat less often I get lower numbers..
Here's a chart of the last 4 months.. the lows are when I was experimenting with the Bacon and Egg Newcastle Diet.Screen Shot 2017-10-27 at 08.27.08.png

I don't know...I have been on low carb for 2 years now and have not had any weight loss...all I got was Fasting BG around 5.5 mmol...haven't managed to get FBG < 5.0 to stick around...

I can get decent BGs by sticking to strict LC but I can only lose weight if I cut back calories - I recently lost 21 lbs in ten weeks of ND with real food.

Two and a half years ago when I first started LC I lost a lot of weight quite quickly then my body adjusted to the new regime and, after a few weeks of stable weight, I started putting back on some of the weight I'd lost.

@Jo_the_boat I work building maintenance so I walk quite a bit during the day. I usually average 5miles/day. Although my numbers are good, I know they can be better for sure but I was just curious how the numbers of others were while on/going keto and whether or not they saw any weird blips along the way. I also do 16:8 pretty much daily and will throw in some 24 hour fast occasionally.

I think that you are being pessimistic and that you probably are already in nutritional ketosis.

Remember that the things you read such as low BG and no ketones in the urine are common but not universal. There are always some people who don't fit into the average profile.

I have been in nutritional ketosis since January but I'm not hitting your outstanding numbers. I also still have ketones in my urine.

Take a deep breath and chill. You are doing wonderfully and if you just manage to maintain those numbers then I think that there are few here (or elsewhere) who will be able to beat them.

@Troubled1 your numbers look great.

As for ketosis, while I did not specifically test for it, it is very likely that in the first two months of my low-carb diet I was in ketosis based not just on the almost total elimination of carbs from my diet, but also strict portion control. I lost 10KG. After the first two months, I did not change the content of the diet, but stopped the portion control. The weight loss stopped, which is just as well as I am now on the edge of underweight. If I was in ketosis before, I am probably no longer in ketosis.

I agree, your numbers are amazing, and you need to take a deep breath and chill.

You have probably answered your own question about that high (for you) FBG this morning - unwashed sweaty hands. It really does impact on readings. Record it and move on. Tomorrow it may be back to normal

I over ate at dinner last night. Had a bell pepper stuffed with taco meat, old cheddar, a tomato slice and sour cream. After that another 1/3 of the same and then a little extra meat and cheese. Despite that, my bedtime bg was 5.6. My fasting bg today was 5.1 and then went to 5.7 by 10:00am then started dropping. I did have 6 thin slices of Genoa salami and some pumpkin seeds roasted in olive oil shell and all. Before dinner my bg’s dropped to 4.4
My ketostix are still showing between small and moderate amounts as carbs have been kept under 20g/day.
My wife is cooking a bacon wrapped meatloaf tonight stuffed with sautéed onions and peppers served with a cauliflower risotto. I’ll be interested in seeing my 2 hour pp levels after this.
I now have my strips and lancet rx refilled so I can do extra tests if I feel a little off. I may even take 1 more reading before dinner.
