As newly diabetic I have been monitoring my BG levels five times a day since May 1. Most of the time my levels are within "normal" ranges. For example yesterday's went from 5.4 before eating to 7.2 after, the other three were between those two. But occasionally I spike into the 8s, early on had a couple of 11s but I know what to avoid now. At present I am on diet control alone.

Is it dangerous to have the occasional spike, if not, how frequently would be regarded as too frequent? Or should you be controlling diet so as to never get above 7.7?

Everyone controls through different methods and ideas and i have been told my method is not the best so be careful. It depends on what you eat, something with higher amounts of carbs / sugar will spike your sugar levels but i personally just prepare before hand by injecting some fast acting insulin to deal with it and do my best to stay in single figures. But i admit i do have many readings above single figures, but i just correct as i have been told to do so by many diabetic specialists.

Best Regards
