Hi everyone,my blood glucose readings have been high of late,13-15,which is unusual, could my meter be at fault, also which is the most accurate place to do the test from:(

Hi @Chalkie,
Do you have any control solution to test if your meter is working?
You could be heading for an infection/cold or something similar and this could have raised your blood sugars.
Do the test on the side of your finger pads on the palm side of your hand.

As far as I know it doesn't matter where you test but the side of the finger end seems to be the normal place. If I get a reading that seems out of place I always wash my hands well again then test on the other hand.

It is possible you have a bad batch of testing strips, as previously suggested, if you have a control solution check with that, otherwise try a different pot of test strips, try and make sure that the batch number is different. If everything still give high readings you might want to try at a chemist as many of those do blood glucose tests, or book an appointment at your doctors for a blood test.

Are the 13 - 15 readings all the time or just post meal or morning fasting, what are you eating and how much is that putting the readings up? What type of levels were you getting before? What medication are you on? If you give us a bit more information about what your readings are like through out the day and what you are eating, then we might be able to give you some more advise.

Finally try not to panic too much, being stressed out will put your blood sugars up as well.

I dont have a control solution to test if my meter is working ok,can i get this from the chemist or from my GP,as for the times i test,it is before a meal or at least 2 hours after and i vary the times of day to see if it makes a difference but it doesnt,i think i will have to sort this test solution first in case my meter is not reading correctly,i will let you know when i check this out, thanks for your help

Where you get the control solution from, I would assume would be the same place you got the meter from. I use the Codefree meter and can get all the supplies straight off Amazon. I don't know about others.

I hope your readings have come down a bit over the weekend for you.

hi
yes this can be a problem i have 3 types of meters so can always do a test on 2 machines use the blood from one finger prick and see how they work out but there is always a small difference say one will say 8 another may be 7or 9
but always wash your hands
before test as i have done a test showing 25 then i check again by washing hands and it is 8 must have got some sweet like sugar or sweet drink and not washed been in a rush
move up insulin 4 hours before if fast action insulin just only .5 unit per hour see how goes for 3 days if no better increase to 1 unit per hour good luck
at a footy a crowd of 30-000 are all managers but only one can tell them what to do

I done the same thing the other day. I didn't was my hands before testing and got a reading of 18.6, I thought what's going on here. So I washed my hands and tried again and got 8.0. I then relished that I had given my grandson some sweets with sugar on and that was the cause of my reading. We learn by our own mistakes on these things.
