Blood level fluctuations

Hi I have been recently diagnosed Type 2.

I am on a low carb diet and 1500mg of Metformin tablets taken in 3 500mg doses with meals.

On taking my blood values yesterday they were as follows:

Before breakfast 9.6, Before Dinner 7, Before Bed 7.6 This morning before breakfast 8.7.

Total nett carbs consumed yesterday approx 130g.

My question is why would my blood sugar reading increase over 12 hours during the night without eating?

You also say "before breakfast". Is this taken some time after getting up? If so, it is best to test immediately on rising and before you start pottering about as any activity will tell your liver to dump its natural glucose. Also, bear in mind that protein can also convert to glucose but it takes several hours to do so, so if you consumed a lot of protein at evening meal, this might be impacting on your fasting levels. Then add stuff like a restless night and you have your reasons.
 
My diabetic nurse says we should never trust our first raise of the day fasting glucose levels do it about 1 to 2 hours after waking up then you'll know your true levels. As soon as I wake up mine is about 7.2 then 1 -2 hours later before breakfast it's 5.7 to 6.5 so try it.
 
OK thanks thats useful advise I took my blood glucose this morning within 10 minutes of getting up. Generally I eat breakfast within half an hour of getting up.

I get where your nurse is comoing from, but it doesn't apply to everyone.I think we are all different.

My blood glucose starts (on waking) in the 6-7 range.
Then it rises steadily until I eat. So if I eat at 8am, I might be at 7.5 but if I eat at 11am I might be at 9.5mmol/l

In my case, I try to test as early as possible, then eat as early as possible, to prevent an unnecessary rise in bg.

I am the same way. BS does not come down until I inject with or without food but I am T1
 
Everyone's T2 is different but Initially at least you might want to try cutting your cabs down even more, but don't starve yourself. After getting my readings under control I a was able to reintroduce a controlled amount of carbs.
 
Hi my doctor suggested daily carb limit of 200g I'm male 6'4 and 106kg weight is coming down with 30 mins of cardio per day
