Blood levels after eating......

Hi everyone, I was after a bit of advice, as I am still new to all this?! I am abut confused about what my bloods should be doing after I have eaten? I know I should test before eating and test 2 hours after. But the reading bit is where I am a bit confused???
If I ate and I was 5.7 and after I went up to 7.00 is this ok? Or should I be aiming for no movement or little movement at all? Or is it ok as long as it stays under 8.5? I've been told a raise of 2 (mmol is that right) is ok but then on the sites it says it should be under 8.5 two hours after? I've also been advised that I should stay the same after I have eaten and then I will know if that food effects me?! So basically I am wondering how do I know if the food is spiking me or not? (Hope you all can follow that, as I've confused myself here)

The NHS guideline for Type 2s is never to go above 8.5 at 2 hours. However, this is a very generous figure. The lower the better, and at 2 hours needs to be definitely under 7.8. This doesn't allow for a starting point though. The lower you are before, the lower you need to be after. It is not good, for example, to start at 4.8 and then 7.8 at 2 hours - that rise is too big. The recommended maximum rise from before to after is 2mmol/l but even this is generous. Under 1.5 is better. No movement or little movement is ideal.

Your example of a 1.3 mmol rise from 5.7 is fine so whatever you ate is a good meal choice for you.

Ideally the rise in blood sugar 2 hours should be no more than 2mmols. Anything above that and you need to adjust either the portion size or reduce carb content.

The NICE guidelines recommend that type 2s aim for post meal levels of no more than 8.5mmols, but many people aim for lower numbers.

As you're just starting out, I'd aim for the 2 hour rise of no more than 2mmols and then make decisions about the levels you're aiming for longer term as you understand more about which foods are 'safe' for you to eat and about managing the condition.
 
hi @Trishbethel well I was diagnosed type 2 about year and half - my levels are about 14 to 25 a mol a day.. I think your ones are what I would like to achieve however my metformin and glucoze does not give me that.. I did my diet as well, how did you manage to become so low with sugar? - if I can ask.
