Hi ,
my blood pressure is 149 over 82 which my GP says is fine. However, as I have the start of retinopathy I am more than a little concerned as I am aware that higher than normal blood pressure is one of the causes of diabetic complications. I have type1 diabetes on the basal bolus system.

Your bp is too high, for those with diabetic retinopathy they want people to be below 130/80, my own Dr and Ophthalmologist wanted mine closer to 130/70 so started me off on a low-dose bp tablet.

It might well be you suffer from White Coat Syndrome when getting your bp checked by your gp, so I suggest you buy a home monitor (with a upper-arm cuff) and test at home to see if your bp readings are lower, if this is the case then discuss your readings with your gp.

The following website has a wealth of information on diabetic retinopathy and what levels you should be aiming for with regards to bg, bp and cholesterol levels:

[teasing]Oh the UK, the place where they want to save money, having not treating below 140 saves a lot of money. T2's don't need to test and they will probably raise the diagnosis to fasting 8 and a1c 7 to save even more
