It had gone up to 6.7. So tried again at 9 down this time to 6.5. I have stared swimming in mornings so by time i ave breakfast it was 12 pm, look readings befor and down again 4.7. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with blood monitor, thanks for reading, await your any answers, sharron

You might be observing the "Dawn Phenomenon". When you get up, your liver starts pumping out glucose to get you going. Your pancreas responds by pumping out insulin but, due to insulin resistance, it takes a while for there to be enough insulin to allow that glucose to pass into your cells and to stop your liver pumping out glucose.

Eventually, your insulin level is high enough for your blood glucose level to fall and insulin production to stop.

There are so many factors that affect blood glucose levels so your results can be very difficult to interpret. That is why some doctors are reluctant to prescribe BG meters to T2s.

Breakfast is really important in getting you going in the morning. Eating signals to your body to turn off the hormones that trigger the liver to release glucose. A low GI snack before bedtime can also help because your BG does not fall as far, delaying the release of the hormones.
