Blood strips

Sorry I may have accidentally created a thread I'm new to this
But I was wondering how many blood strips you or people used in a average day and week
The doc is giving out to me saying I'm taking too many and want me to slow down and take less tests which, I am not so happy about .
Would you mind telling me how many you take ?
I'm not even sure if that is a inappropriate question to be asking ?

Stewart, how many are you doing at the moment, and are you type 1 or type 2? How long have you been diagnosed?

We all test different amounts, so it's difficult to tell you where you should be, but I imagine the t1s test more often than t2s, although someone may want to call me out on that!

I'm type 1 I take about 10 a day inject about 9 times I'm a fitness instructor my diabetes is good .if I could I would test more .how many do you take ?

Typically I test five to six times a day and have bought the freestyle libre, partially with the intention of reducing this (I hope). 10 seems like a lot, and injecting 9 times a day is also way more than average I'd say. I have well controlled type 1 and I basal twice a day with lantus, and bolus with meals, three times a day, which is pretty typical. If you are regularly giving yourself adjustment doses, then you need to look at your basal level. If you are eating more frequently than me, then I can understand more injections.

How long have you been type 1?

I been diabetic 16 years yes as a bodybuilder I eat a lot and travel my car many times during the day which I will also test my sugars before doing

I can understand your Doctor's point though. The NHS isn't really set up for high usage of test strips as instead of costing us it costs them. I had a long discussion with my GP about a year ago regarding the cost of BG strips and discovered that the amount that the NHS pays is substantially below that of the VAT free price in somewhere like Boots.

I think for T1s they tend towards an average use of about 4 per day, but I'll ask my GP tomorrow as I have an annual update with him.

I test about 4 to 6 times a day most days but sometimes I don't have time to so I only do it like 2 times then. But I have a problem with having regular meals don't always have time to eat so I snack then and my bloods go all over the place

I measure everything I eat
I pre make all my weeks for the week on a Saturday if I get cut with my strips I know I will have to buy them separately
