I am recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. For some reason, if i take insulin with breakfast (regardless of what i eat) i almost always hypo after an hour or too, sometimes even when i dont eat. My sugar levels are often going too low. Eg, rice with 70g of carbs, 3 units of novarapid, often sugar is just above hypo stage a couple of hours later. Ate tea with no insulin today, sugar was at 7mmol after 2 hours. Does anyone know why this is happening and have any suggestions as to what i can do to stop it?

Hi @shoves16 have you discussed this with you DSN? Are you carb counting and adjusting your insulin dose to match the carbs you are eating? How much background/long acting insulin are you taking & when?

It sounds like you are honeymooning - you might still be producing a bit of your own insulin - & that might be causing you to drop a bit low. You might need to think about reducing your insulin - if you are recently diagnosed your diabetic nurse should still be giving quite a bit of support so you should try to discuss with her.
