Blood sugar control.

I'm finding it difficult to control my hunger in between meals therefore I am snacking and my blood sugar is rocketing. Has anyone else had that problem? Or can give me any advice.
 
all the time, but usually I can occupy myself between meals if at work for example.........

what kind of snacks are you taking...........

obviously low/no carb would be ideal...........nuts/cheese...[unfortunately fatty...]

drinking water is known to stave off hunger too........
 
It's worth reducing your carbohydrate intake and upping fats. A low carb high(er) fat diet can do wonders, particularly if you're a type 2 - it's the carbs that give you your hunger pangs. And carbs that raise your glucose levels.

Try eating cheese, small portions :D of nuts, a spoonful of peanut butter, pork scratchings, cup of coffee with plenty of cream, a couple of pieces of 75% cocoa or higher dark chocolate. They are all low in carbs, and higher in fats.

But if you modify your main meals you're much more likely to feel satisfied, and so not need to snack between them. In spite of what you may have been told fat does not make you fat - it's too too many carbs that do - and it's best to swap the latter with more of the former.

I presume, if your blood sugar is rocketing, you aren't giving a bolus for your snacks (your info says you're Type 1). Aren't you on MDI? If not, you're missing out on the freedom it gives in choosing how much and when to eat.
 
The best nuts to snack on are macadamia, almonds or walnuts, do you like olives? Chunks of feta cheese, they all fill you up.
 
You should contact your DSN and ask about increasing your insulin so you can have snacks but also ask if you can go onto MDI so that you can have the freedom it gives - but you know it means using your pen each time you snack and careful carb counting. They might want you to be on your present insulin regime for a longer period of time.
 
I'm a terrible snacker too!
I agree that moving to multiple injections would make it easier but it would be easier to try to improve the snacking still.
I've just started buying a bag of popcorn to 'graze' on during the afternoon at work - it's better for you than crisps (or my nemesis - biscuits!!) Obviously not the stuff that's covered in toffee though!! I just have the salty popcorn but be careful if you have a high salt diet already...
The sad fact is that nothing that tastes good is ideal - they all have either high sugars, high salt or high fat generally!!
