Got up this morning 7:08am checked blood sugar level 6.3, had a cup of decaf coffee with sweetners & soya milk lite and did a little light work, checked blood sugar level again at 9:03am blood sugar level had increased to 7.4 ! Any thoughts on why the blood sugar level has increased ?

Dawn Phenomenon. Your liver is dumping glucose to give you energy to start the day, and since you're active it just keeps dumping until you have breakfast.

Instead of soya milk light try a good splash of double cream. It tastes much nicer and it will convince your liver that you're not starving and it can stop feeding you stored glucose

I have found that getting a high reading then going to the other hand has shown a big difference The level will change in a matter of minutes when even going back to the same finger minutes later

The level will change in a matter of minutes

The meters are not very accurate (plus or minus %15) you can get different readings from 2 strips used on the same drop of blood. So unless the reading is way off what you were expecting due to contamination or a faulty strip your best bet is to just go with the first result.

It's normal and expected behaviour for the liver to be secreting glucose in the morning (or any time of day for that matter). The issue occurs when either your pancreas cannot counter with enough insulin, or the insulin resistant liver continues to drip glucose into the bloodstream even as insulin levels rise and glucagon levels fall. It's a runaway train effect that can be a real problem for those with insulin deficiencies and/or broken metabolisms.

If you are type 2 then keep calm and carry on. Put less glucose in - or none - keep burning off what's been accumulating over a lifetime, and eventually the liver and pancreas should start playing nice again. While this healing is taking place, don't be too worried about rising morning numbers. The glucose is better off in your blood where you can burn it off.

6.3 to 7.4 could very well be the same number. Your machine will have a tolerance of 15%. I would say that is a very small increase.
As others have already said it could be a small case of dawn phenomenon

This might be due to the dawn phenomenon: your body is pumping up BG along with cortisol and adrenaline (stress hormones) as available energy to start a new day. Does this spike reoccur later on in the day? If yes, then it is something different. Still, I am rather inclined to think it is.
