Type 2 Blood sugar levels and colds

Hi - I’m 2 months into a keto diet, after a diagnosis of type 2. All has been going well and my blood sugar levels have gone down quickly. In the last week they’ve settled almost a point higher (instead of 5.4 or 5.8 I am at 6.4 or 6.8). It doesn’t feel good to be flirting with the upper limits all the time. I haven’t altered my diet but I do have a head cold. Could the cold have altered my levels? Thanks for your help with this.

In my experience the misery of a cold can increase my blood sugars. The body has a stress response when fighting infections that can lead to increased glucose in the blood, and also may rise from the stress of the symptoms. I find my BG seems to climb at night, when a cold tends to make me feel at my worst.

Ride it out. When the cold's over you'll return to normal levels. If you hadn't been on keto you would've seen things a lot worse, so good going!
