If you go here http://www.diabetes.co.uk/hba1c-units-converter.html and type the 55 into the middle box it'll convert it for you and the page tells you a bit more about it all.
It's your HbA1c which tells them and you how bad or good your blood sugar control has been over the last few months.
You're doing well already, you've got it down from 61 to 55.

It's a shame that doctors don't seem to want to discuss the numbers with patients. I have yet to have a health care professional discuss blood sugar targets with me. But I have figured out a huge amount from this forum and on-line research. You should do the same. You should try to get them to prescribe you a personal blood glucose meter, then search on this forum for advice on when to measure and how to use that info. You should be able to get your HbA1c down farther with dietary changes. Your numbers are not super high and the downward trajectory is great, but you'll probably need to reduce carbohydrate intake to get the numbers down more. I would encourage you to post any more questions you have here on the forum- they will for sure be answered by people who have and are going through the same as you.

The units are in mmol/mol but that probably doesnt help much but mol is basically a measure of concentration of a solution.
Didn't say anything about them declaring you as cured just that they label you at 48. Out of the 3 tests that I have had only one has been above 48 the others 40 and 35 but still I am labelledIf only it were that simple.

You can always ask for an explanation, and also a print out of your blood test results. I find these print outs are essential to me. I have them all. If there are elements you don't understand, you can Google them. It won't just have been a glucose test or HbA1c, it may well also have been cholesterol, liver and kidney functions. Please ask for the print outs.
