Hi @keezee46 , and welcome to the forum!
How high are the numbers you're seeing?

The HbA1c is measured in Mmol/mol, the blood sugar machine measures in mmol/l or mg/dl. So they're entirely different units. (A HbA1c is also an average blood glucose measurement of 3 months, the glucose meter measures what your bloods are doing right that minute). So let's start there. What is your meter showing you? And what do you eat and drink in a day? Some people think they're doing low carb, and they're far from it. So let's get your current glucose numbers straight and see whether you're actually doing okay or not, and sort out any possible dietary problems, if they're there.

My blood sugar was 12.3 at the doctors but always over 15.6 on the machine i'm on mainly vegetables and fish at the moment and drinking water because i had a threat of my leg being amputated because of the pains in it

Do you have some kind of infection in your leg? Infections make your blood glucose go up!
The same goes for steroids, if you use them you can expect to see high numbers.

Can you contact your HCP to ask about the high numbers and if something needs to be done about it?

Some vegetables are higher in carbs than others, and I'm hoping the fish isn't battered... But other than that, I'm at a loss too. Antje's right, if there is an infection it can drive your numbers up, so can steroids (for your legs or for other conditions for instance) and a number of other meds, like statins. If you can't tick any other boxes, please get in touch with your doc and get two tests done: c-peptide and GAD. You want to make sure you're not a slow onset T1. Because if you are, you need to know, and fast.
