Hi all

My husband has Type 2 and was diagnosed about 6 months ago, has lost about 2 stone, and his last HBA1c was 6.5, down from 11.4. His bg is better than at diagnosis. He now eats low carb (about 40-60g per day) and is feeling much better for it. He is testing his BS and is finding that it is high-ish in the morning (dawn syndrome?) at about 7.3 and goes down as the day goes on. He tends to go lower (around 5.6) by mid-afternoon, and is in the 6's after dinner in the evening. He is on Metformin 500mg 3 times per day and has his first pill with breakfast around 9am, the second late afternoon and the third late evening.

Is this "normal?" as it seems this waking BS reading is higher than it was back in December? Sometimes although he is low-carbing he will have something high-ish in carbs (about 12g) about an hour before bed. Should he avoid this, and do you know any other methods of avoiding dawn syndrome, if that is what it is?

Hi

Slow release lowcarbs like oatcakes (nairns fine milled are only 4.2 gcarbs), or a bit of cheese, peanuts, peanut butter are all things Ive read other T2's take before bed to avoid a liver dump mid morning which causes a dawn rise at times. Only your hubbys meter can tell him if 12g is too high but if he is eating that without meds, quite possibly?

Other thing is to eat something low carb for brekkie, and eat right away
