Blood sugar spike after eating

So obviously after eating your blood sugar rises but how much do you expect it to rise after meals. I know that blood sugar should be below 9mmol 2hours after eating. It’s been 30 minutes after eating and I’m 10.7.

Is this normal? Both for non diabetics and diabetics? Realistically speaking do non-diabetics experience this kind of post-prandial spike?

I want to mimic the blood sugar of a non-diabetic as much as possible but considering human insulin is much slower than the analogue kind we inject ourselves, in theory would non-diabetics have worse blood sugars?

Depends on what I've eaten and how well my diabetes has been behaving in the last couple of days.
It’s been 30 minutes after eating and I’m 10.7.
What was it before eating? Without that number you won't know how much you have risen.
Also, what was the food? Some foods can get a non diabetic give such numbers 30 minutes after eating.

Well I ate 2 BBQ bean burgers no bun just the patties. About 60g of carbs altogether and I injected 6 units of insulin around 5 minutes before (beans are a slow carb so I didn’t prebolus majorly)

It was 6.5 before eating. My blood sugars return to perfect levels 2hours after eating but I feel like I shouldn’t have such a large spike. I really don’t know how much a normal person’s glucose increase after meals but how can your pancreas produce insulin and lower your blood sugar so effectively if human insulin takes longer to take effect? Insulins like Novorapid are absorbed more rapidly so in theory should reduce the chance of a large spike

Sounds pretty good to me, you could play around a bit more with prebolusing if you're confident to do so.

The pancreas doesn't put the insulin under our skin but sends it directly to the liver, which apparently is much more efficient. Like when hospitalised for DKA, you'll get insulin through a drip in a vein instead of subcutaneous.

I'm afraid injected insulin doesn't work like a normal person's insulin. Injected insulin works over a 4-hour window. If you eat carbohydrates your blood sugars will spike. DAFNE says don't worry about the spike, just test it before your meals. Your blood sugars should have returned to roughly the same level by your next meal.
