I do not have diabetes
Hi i had a couple of episodes that felt like what is described as hypoglycemia. Feeling shaky, craving for sugar/carbs. I remember similar feelings as a child when I had been running around too much! I am overweight and not very fit now. So I did two home fasting tests and it looked to be somewhere between 6 and 8 but I wasn't sure. I have just got my results back from a fasting test at doctors who told me it was 5.5 and nothing to worry about. I'm happy that the result has come back like that but it seems a bit close to pre diabetic especially with the other results. I'm addressing my diet which should help but i doesn't explain the episodes. I don't really understand diabetes but is it possible that these are related to being towards the level of diabetic diagnosis. In my mind it might just be to do with being out of shape.

I am absolutely no expert, but I have read that sometimes when we have lowered our bg we can feel bad because our bodies are simply not used to that new healthier level. (But I believe one can also crave carbs when one's bg is actually extra high.) The advice is to try to last it out, but if feeling desperate eat a few fast acting carbs. I'm not sure if you have your own meter and strips? IMO the best would be to test next time you feel wobbly and see what is going on. Then, since you say you are adressing your diet, which is a great idea, you could test just before meals and 2 hours after to see what foods work well for you and which are a disaster!

Thanks Alexandra, kind of you to reply. That's an interesting article and sound advice. Cheers.
