Hi my glucose level was 18 last night, highest it's ever been, can only think that all the orange juice and Manuka honey I've taken over the last week has got rid of my cold but has done nothing for glucose levels, anyone got any diabetic cold remedies out there, I hate the after taste that you get with sugar free drinks, might have to start getting use to it I suppose

No remedy other than rest and water. Honey and OJ? No wonder. Hot lemon juice would have served you far better

Remember to test often when you are sick - illness usually makes your blood sugar go up significantly. Aside from that, drink plenty of fluid (not sugary drinks! Water is best, mineral water or diet soda for a bit of variety). Make sure you get enough sleep. Eat a healthy, balanced diet - try to keep it as close as you can to your usual diet. (Changing your diet can also affect your blood sugars, you don't want any more variation than is necessary when you're ill).

I always put a lemon slice in my drink! Gives it a nice flavour.

Lesley - There's little doubt the Manuka honey and orange juice will have had a hand in the 18 you saw last night. It is however likely your underlying numbers would be a bit higher than usual, due to your cold,

Running at 18 isn't likely to be helping how you feel, so it looks like it makes sense to lay off the Manuka/OJ concoction. Maybe a fruit tea would be a pleasant alternative, or a creamy hot chocolate, made from diluted cream, with some unsweetened hot chocolate powder, if you fancy something more substantial.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

My old Mum used to say 'Take something for a cold and it will last for seven days, take nothing and it will last for a week'. I have found this to be true and take a couple of paracetamol and drink fluids. Since dx I have had one head cold and saw bg rises but nothing unexpected and didn't even take the paracetamol.
