Hey
I'm still very new to being diabetic after spending 5months in hospital. I was rushed back in on Wednesday because no machine could read my sugars as they were to high. My sugars then continued to rise and then fall to under 4 and back up. I'm now home and did my sugars this morning and it was 19.6 but I'm on a diet so I watched what I eat. What's going on?

Hi @KittyKat92 could you give a bit more information on how you are treating your diabetes? that way someone might be able to have a better guess at what is going on :)

Check out the Reactive hypoglycemia thread on this forum. Yor symptoms sound similar to what others have posted. It would help if you could try to align your swings timewise with meals / meal timings.

You have not indicated what insulin regime you are doing, and again this could provide clues as to why you are having these extreme events. What diet are you following? Is it low carb?

Sorry to ask so many details, but the more info you can share, the easier it will be for others to give advice. I am a T2D, so am limited in what I can advise.

Are you eating slow releasing carbs??

By definition, RH is a disorder that causes a delayed and often excessive insulin response from the pancreas. As this was posted in the type 1 forum, I'd assume we can probably rule out RH.

This seems to be a clear case of artificial insulin management issues. Unfortunately, the ways of correcting those issues aren't always so clear.

It would be important to know things like:
When the lows are most likely to occur.
When the highs are most likely to occur.
How our friend @KittyKat92 corrects for carbs (carb counting, sliding scale, etc)
What insulins she uses, when she uses them, and how much

Readings in excess of 20mmol/l are an obvious indication that there are times throughout the day when her body is not receiving enough insulin. The question becomes if it's the result of lack of basal or bolus insulin (or both).
