hi,
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years ago. I was put on metformin 500mg 3 times a day.
I was not given a blood sugar meter, to test my blood sugar levels.
So recently when I had to go into hospital for an operation, when I told them I was diabetic, they tested my blood sugar and said it was 25. This was after fasting for 12 hours prior to my operation. They said it may be cause I may had infection or worring about the operation, may have caused the high blood sugar level. In the end they could not give me an general anethetic, because of high reading and gave me an spinal one instead.
I don't know now if I need a meter to test my levels myself, (if doctor will give me one) or its maybe to me having an infection.
What do forum people think?

Infections can cause high blood sugars. It's best if you can afford it to get a meter. Test 2 hours after a meal.
Hows your diet? Most of us on here cut out white carbs, eg, pasta, rice, bread, pastry.

hi Dawn.
not as good as it should be. Cut down on beer, which I think was the worst problem. Lost 2 stone over the last 2 years in an effort to stop me maybe one day having to have insulin injections, has I don't like needles.
Ken.
