Hi there
Iv just been diagnosed with diabetes 2 for past 2 weeks. I just done my blood suger n it was 8.8 iv not had anything to eat since yesterday about 9pm n that was just a bowl of soup. Can anyone tell me why it is so high. Just started 2ndstrength of meteor in last night. I am shocked itis so high.
Thanks

Glucose in the blood is not all from foods, our liver releases glucose, and if you are newly diagnosed you might have considerable stores of it available and the liver is happy to release as much as possible, particularly if your insulin output is reducing due to alteration in your diet - I think that the pancreas can get a bit hysterical when ignored pre-diagnosis.

Thank you. Resurgam
I haven’t been told any of this. My blood suger hasn’t been any higher than 5.5. This is the first time it was 8.8. just when I think I’m learning,it’s straight back to not having a clue
Thanks

From your profile I think this is a typo for 2nd strength of Metformin. Metformin doesn’t have a direct effect of lowering blood sugar, it stops your liver chucking out so much sugar but has a cumulative effect, so probably won’t be helping much yet.

I did find that eating at 12 hourly intervals kept my blood glucose levels even - these days I eat soon after I get up and then in the evening.
The foods I eat are nutritious, so I don't need lunch, which gives me quite a bit more time to do things during the day. It is surprising what I achieve just by skipping a meal.
