Hi,
Earlier today I had several phials of blood taken, - HbA1c I was expecting, but not the additional ones,(4 altogether)...They appeared to cover every aspect of my body...(well almost).
I hadn't realised just how long it had been since my previous A1c check. Apparently it was February 2012...18 months ago.
Now I will need to wait two weeks until my review to get these results and I'm not confident that they will be 'good news', as I feel that I've gradually slipped back into my old ways, (not completely as I'm not adding sugar to my drinks or weetabix), but I've allowed myself bigger portions of food at my main meal and I've 'dabbled' with cake/biscuits on occasions, with my coffee in the afternoons.
I don't check my blood glucose every day, however I have noticed that my morning (fasting) readings are now in the 6+ range. :(
I was averaging around 5+/- this time last year.

I'm still not using any medication at the moment but I'm concerned that if the latest readings are too high then I'll be expected to start doing so... I'm going to need to work much harder with my diet/exercise from now on, if I'm to continue without medication.
My weight remains stable at 9 stone,(just) and I do consider myself to be reasonably active, on a day-to-day basis.

Your doctor should have the results in a few days. I usually phone the surgery to get mine before my review. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, Ria... I may decide to just monitor, (daily) my B.g. readings and, hopefully reduce them over the next two weeks, by 'behaving myself'...

Regards., Malc

Hi Malc, you are exactly like me.I am on diet only and test twice a day.I found myself getting complacent at reasonable.readings.I slipped back to the odd pie or biscuit and now find myself and bg readings slowly getting higher.
The answer imo is self control/changing the mind-set.I feel (for me)is the WANTING TO factor, the same one i had when i successfully gave up smoking.

Hi again...
My review earlier today, (Friday 13th) wasn't quite as bad as I thought...
First review for 18 months... Delay was my fault, apparently, as the system has been changed and it's now MY responsibility to arrange an appointment in 6 months time...
D.n. tried to convince me to start on 'one' metformin per day, ( As she did back in Jan 2011), however think I convinced her that I am able to lower my readings once again with just diet & excercise...

HbA1c - converted to 7.1
Cholesterol - 5.7

Both readings need to be much lower, that I realise, but I would (still) like to achieve it without medication, if possible.
I did think the figures would be higher than they were...
Some relief, but no room for complacency...

Regards, Malc.
