Hi just got an appointment for Blood test at my Doctors , I remember the Nurse telling me I would have to Fast for 12 hours , but now I'm wondering about my Medication , within a 12 hour fasting period I would only have my Morning meds .. Which would be my 10 Does of Byetta and then 100mg of Metformin ..

Now if Im not eating should I take them still or am I supposed to leave them out and retake again in the evening as both meds are based around my breakfast , which I wont be eating , I called the surgery but the Doctor is away until Monday any advise will be great , Thanks Dave

If your Nurse or GP tells YOU to fast then that is what YOU do. I sometimes have various tests done at the same time as HbA1c etc. I too take Byetta 5ug now, so I get the test done first thing and go straight from the Hospital for a breakfast. That way none of my meds are missed andd I don't miss out on any food. You could just take the Metformin at the usual time and take the Byetta with a midday meal, leaving the requisite 6 hrs between Byetta doses.

sorry i didnt mean not to fast, was just saying thats what my nurse told me...wonder why then to be honest?!! i would rather fast to get an accurate reading i mean after all my 1st hbc1a?!! was done after fasting

To be Honest I think I recall being told to fast , but when I got the appointment today its very vague just has the two dates for two appointments and asks for a early morning urine sample .
But then I thought to myself do I still take my morning meds as that wasnt mentioned for sure the receptionist said my doctor will be back on Monday so I think best to clear it up ..

Thanks for the reply , my time is 9:30am so that's way out of my eating zone I have Breakfast at 7:00am and previously I had never eaten breakfast I know I wont want to eat at 10:00am onwards

I wonder if they acyually though these times through , thanks again Dave
