Is it possible to get a decent blood sugar level test kit without prescription (which I'm not going to get?

I read i can control the neural damage by keeping sugar levels as close to normal as poss - but of course I dont know what they are except once every six months when I go to the clinic.

Advice on a good machine would be helpful.

Thanks in anticipation

Dear hern,

Welcome to the site.

I have had my One-Touch Ultra tester from LIFESCAN for over eight years now and it has performed
perfectly with only one change of battery in that time. The only note of caution would be that
you should perhaps be a UK resident as I found it impossible to email the Company from Indonesia.

Good luck,

Rob

It depends on whether you want a good machine with expensive strips, then one from the major manufacturers will be just fine. If the cost of strips is an issue for you then the Codefree would be a good option http://www.amazon.co.uk/Codefree-Glucos ... B0068JAJFS

I don't have one and there are mixed reviews about it as from what I have read on here, it reads higher than others. But if you only want to know what foods affect you badly, then this could be a cost effective meter.

Hi, Hern,

Welcome to the forum.

I have a codefree and find the cost suits my pocket. The price of their testing strips are very good.

They do help you keep good control.

good luck,

Roy, :)

Hi. I've also had the One Touch Ultra for 8 years. The strips aren't the cheapest but you can get meters like this for free from the manufacturer. The Codefree may be a good option although the accuracy may not be quite as good but this isn't essential.
