Hi, My daughter was diagnosed as type 1 diabetic in January this year, she copes well and has a few wobbles which is to be expected and i am sure i would be worse! :?
She is having problems getting blood out when testing, she uses the pricker correctly, but says she can't feel it.
Does anyone know any tricks to make it work or another tester she could use?

She uses a Accu-Chek Multiclix.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to us all here. How old is your daughter? If she cant feel the lancet going into her finger? could you try setting the lancet speed dial a bit higher? It is usually numbered from 1 to 6 am set on 2 n half , she should be able to adjust this dial , then retry it till can feel it ? ouch! then its relax hold finger downwards let blood flow to end of finger gently squeeze to produce a tiny droplet . Always test on the side of fingers this prevents pads of fingers becomeing sore. I use accu-check aviva nano meter n I love it. It is small, light, compact and lights up in the dark too. It comes with its own carry case ideal for my handbag. Hope this helps you? Please let us know how your daughter goes on. Anna.x :D

If your daughter washes her hands in warm water to make sure her finger is warm this really does make a difference.

We use the Multiclix lancer and sometimes I miss my sons finger because the lancet isn't in the centre and is off to the side. This is probably what I dislike about the lancer compared to something like the Accu- chek Softclix. The disadvantage is that you have to replace the lancer one by one.

Other than the above I do find if you turn the depth to a good number (Khaleb's on 2) and after you fire then wait a few seconds (keep hand down not in the air) and gently squeeze the whole finger a nice drop of blood comes out and you don't do damage.

Welcome to the forum too. Most parents hang out in the Youth section so you can meet lots of us there.

I have the BG Star monitor and you can set the needle depth (mines on 4) I only just feel it but I have to drop my hand well below my waist to get any blood out.
