Blood tests for T2's

How often do those here with T2 have blood tests. I have had routine annual blood tests for over 10 years because I take blood pressure tablets and how I found out last year that I had T2. After diagnosis I was told to have a blood test in 3 months time which I did the nurse was pleased with my results HbA1c had gone down from 46 to 42 so she told me to have the next one in six months which is due next month.
My husband was diagnosed T2 about 18 months ago he had one 3 month blood test and 2 6 month tests his BG levels are good and the nurse said now he would just have yearly tests so is this what most T2's have
I have Type for about 10 years I take metformin & glicazide last month I was issued with a test kit due to DVLA making a change in the law for driving. If my reading is below 5mmols I am not allowed to drive. I follow this rule religiously, 2 times iwasbelow 5 and I did not take my car out of my garage. I do not want to take the risk and possibly have an accident so I have to take my readings twice daily before food I think it is right I should and this is for T2.

..snip.. Like one I take called dapagloflozin which stops your kidney's reabsorbing the glucose doing away with the need for urine test which is full of sugar due to taking this tablet but practice nurse still looks to test it. Will see how I get on on Mon.

Hi June
I'm on dapagliflozin too, but still have a urine test with my blood tests - have done for years. I was told that the urine sample you give to the nurse/clinic is being tested for kidney function, not sugar - they check for protein (which is why women need to mention if their period's due - it can mess the test up). It's your blood that gets tested for sugar - I think urine tests for sugar are pretty old fashioned these days. Only time I ever had one was how I was diagnosed - they did a urine test before an operation, and it came back +++, so they did a fasting blood test (13.9) and told me to see my GP as soon as I got home...
Hope you got on OK on Monday.
