I was looking through my medical records and a recent blood test showed this.

HbA1c levl - IFCC standardised103.000 mmol/mol20 - 41.9 mmol/mol

Does anyone know what it means?

Cheers John

This was the blood test that they told me I was a diabetic

You are marginal on that diagnosis at 41.9 mmol/mol. In the UK prediabetes is considered to be a result of 42-47mmol/mol, and Type 2 is considered at 48 mmol/mol in the absence of obvious symptoms related to T1.

Ok cheers.

It's not as bad as i thought.

I wonder if this shows that my type 1 symptoms have came on quick rather than lingering for months/years.

Type 1 does come on quick. It is unusual to be undiagnosed with type 1 for a long period.
Type 2 is different which is why there is a lot written about "undiagnosed diabetes".

At 103 it means your average blood sugar was 15.9.
I was put on to insulin after an HbA1c of 102, and I found my blood sugars running in the 20s.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I also read this as

HbA1c is 103mmol/mol

The 20-41.9mmol/mol is the standard range. (within that range you would be non-diabetic. Your 103 is very high and very definitely diabetic. Anything above 47 is diabetic.)

No wonder my vision was poor having sugars that high.

Next tuesday is my first hospital appointment in the diabetic ward/dept.

Just wish I was on correct meds now so I can get on with things.
Hopefully ASAP. You should prepare for a lifelong challenge. If I were you I would not eat many carbs until you're on insulin.

Im not eating many carbs. Ive got my levels down. They range from lows of 4mmol to about 8mmol with some spikes of around 11.

But thats down to me not been on correct meds and also not sure what to eat.

Lay off the Fruit Loops! 4-11 isn't horrible considering you're not on insulin.
