Bloods sent to Hull for analysis

Hi everyone,

So I had my bloods done for my phone appointment with the diabetic consultant, and I got all the results back except for HBa1c, which for some reason was sent to Hull for analysis. I have no idea why they were sent there as I live in Northern Ireland. I've never been to Hull, I've only been in England for a connecting flight from Gatwick. My diabetes specialist nurse said if they were being sent to England it would have been Exeter.

Is there any hope of getting these results back? Its been 5 weeks now and no one can tell me anything. Is there someone I can contact to chase it up? I have spoke to my GP, DSN and the diabetic consultant and none of them seem to know why it was sent to Hull. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with Covid as I had it about a week before having bloods done.

I would prefer not to have the bloods done again so soon as it stresses me out but it seems like my only option.

Have you been told where in Hull it's been sent? If so I'd ring them direct, if not you could always try ringing the path lab at hull hospital.

Both my HbA1c tests were analysed locally and results on the NHS App and Patients Know Best system the next day - although you aren't wanting to, I would suggest having it done again, sounds like the nurse(?) mislabelled your sample to me. Leave it. a few more weeks and you'll be due your next one:banghead:

Sorry I'm not familiar with Norther Ireland systems as no doubt different to England.

We don't have an app in Northern Ireland. We have to call our GP to get blood results and its normally the receptionist who tells you the results, so most of the time they don't know what the results mean. If you don't call the GP you never find out the results. It's like your health is a big secret that you are not allowed to know about.

What a faff! I hope they find your results soon.
