Blood at 6.8 had a pizza, 2 hours later read 9.4, took no action but tested 2 hours later 6.4, anyone explain please.
I am low carbing but not on meds, my bs goes up and down with no action from me, if I don’t cheat like today it stays between 4.9 and 6.7. No good going to my diabetic crew they are worse than useless. My last Hba1c came back 33.

Hi @kevin hogg
Looks like the carbs in the pizza caused the 9.4 reading. The 6.4 after another 2 hours seems reasonable enough. Perhaps if you tested an hour after eating carbs then another hour after you would be able to gauge better the peak reading and how the carb affects blood glucose. The HbA1c of 33 is good going, so you must be doing something right.
:)

Yes normally strong willed but go off the rails occasionally, strange thing is potatoes don’t seem to affect me much

I think I recall others saying potatoes don't affect their blood glucose levels too much. Many find it is bread, grains etc. Not forgetting sugar, that do the damage. All we can do is test to see what affects each of us as individuals. Eating to your meter.

I can eat small amount of potatoes, if they are whole night in the water to extract starch. After that boil it and do the mash with lot of butter.

There is the pizza effect combination of carbs and fats can extend the time to return to normal for several hours and has been known to give a double peak so after eating blood sugar can rise then fall then rise and fall again so you need to test for that pattern that is maybe test at three hours then at four hours as well as the one and two hour points that is if you test at one hour many don't as it is thought to be unnecessary.

The high carbs combined with the high fat in pizza make it a difficult food for people with diabetes to eat.
The carbs push up your BG whereas the fat delays it or, as @JohnEGreen mentions, gives you a double peak.
Many people with type 1 just don't bother because they find it so hard to calculate and time their insulin doses whereas others (especially those with insulin pumps) spread their insulin over the next 4 hours or so ... because this is how long it can take for the body to absorb all those carbs.
So, (back to comments from @JohnEGreen ) it may be worth checking what your BG is three or four hours after eating your pizza.
