Type 2
Hi there. Was diagnosed approx 18 months ago ( blurred vision was one sign ) since then with low carb diet I have had no eye issues to speak of and have mostly near normal blood sugar readings/ A1c
Lately I have cheated on my diet which involves carbs and sugar.
I found myself with blurred vision. Checking BS it was way up for first time since diagnosis. Got back on low carb regime and found myself with blurred vision lately. This time though it’s low blood sugar.
I’m not on insulin. Metformin only. No other health issues / changes recently
Anyone have any ideas ?
GP is reluctant to change medication or do anything different
Thx
Janice

If you are sensitive enough to keep your BG Levels within the range the " doctor's recommendations" and "constantly" and it takes a little bit of time until the blurred vision is back to the normal, I believe you should be allright.

It is also worthwhile to visit an Ophthalmologist.

@Janiceglen. Maybe it's not diabetes related. High BS is a cause of blurred vision but not the only cause.
A visit to an optometrist may be on the cards.
Good luck.

If I understand correctly, you are saying that you are getting blurred vision when your blood sugar levels are low. Blurred vision is a known symptom of hypoglycaemia so this should be treated promptly https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/low-blood-sugar-hypoglycaemia/ If the blurriness goes away fairly promptly after the blood sugar levels are normalised, it is likely that hypoglycaemia is the cause.

If you are getting frequent episodes of hypoglycaemia, it's worth checking this out with your GP. In the meantime, try to be alert for any of the early signs and symptoms so you can address hypoglycaemia before vision is affected.

Blurred vision can also be a symptom of diabetic maculopathy so if the blurriness persists, see an optician. (Although maculopathy is usually detected before symptoms develop at annual diabetic eye screening, occasionally people develop the condition between screenings. It's therefore important to get visual symptoms checked promptly at the optician and not wait for the next eye screening.)
