Hey guys,

In February this year I was put under anaesthetic for both eyes due to proliferative retinopathy... had my follow up one month later and my right eye is stable and my left eye needed further treatment .. so I had more laser surgery done on the 7th of may and I swear to god my left is has NO DEFINITION in it I can’t see people’s faces or read small words ... I went to have my eyes examined yesterday as I was worried and the ophthalmologist said that both of my eyes are stable no new vessels or bleeds and my macula is totally clear so they cannot understand why I cannot see out of my left eye??? It’s totally blurry and is giving me horrendous migraines and my eyesight was totally perfect untill they started any treatment on this ... due to this I had to leave my job I cannot work either and I just want my sharp vision back has anyone experienced this or know what to do? I ring the eye clinic on a daily basis now and I just feel like a nuisance... my blood sugar control has got a lot better I’m focusing big time on it as I have never controlled my diabetes since I was diagnosed which was 15 years ago would that have anything to do with it ??

Please share your experiences and advise thank you xxxx

Changes in blood sugar can give you blurry eyes for a while. If that's the problem it should clear up by itself. Using a pair of 2 euro glasses for a week or 2 may help you until your eyes have gotten used to better control.
I'll have my fingers crossed that's all it is!

It's very good news that you have no new vessels and no macular oedema. Sudden improvement in blood glucose control can cause blurred vision for a few weeks as it takes time for the glucose levels to normalise. Try making a pin-hole in a piece of card that is just big enough to look through. Hold the card up to your left eye and look through it in bright light. Does your vision improve? Also, experiment with different strengths of reading glasses from the pound shop and see if you can find a pair that helps for the time being.

Hi there

What would the pin hole do or explain to me ? I’m going to go home and do it now! If it improves what does that mean? Is it not normal for both eyes to be blurry I’m concerned as some days both eyes are clear and some days the left eye is just a total blur :(

No my vision does not improve through a pin hole not while it’s this blurry it’s very blurry kind of like a cloud or something

Try not to panic! I know that is easier said than done. From someone whom has had the max lasering and now on injections for macular oedema (which thankfully you don't have) But lasering needs to heal just like anything else you have done that is abrasive, give it time, I have had laser, especially when it was near a nerve that took some time to get over. My eye almost felt like it was weeping! and consequently blurry! Your eye specialists are not concerned on recent examination, so I would see that as a positive. But if you are anything like me you are getting into a state and rightly so. fearing for you vision and patience is so hard to come by, but I am hoping and going by my own experiences that this will work out for you! I so hope it does:)

One thing not explained above - the pinhole test. When the entry pupil is restricted to a very small size, the lens is in effect doing next to nothing and the image will be in decent focus on the retina. If the image improves to a good/passable state from a blur under pinhole conditions, this means that the problem is forward from the retina.
