Blurry vision that lasts only a few hours

My vision is blurry for a few hours some days. Sometimes more hours, sometimes more frequently. The hospital has checked all sorts of things, and hasn't come up with any answer . I am not diagnosed diabetic, but do sometimes have very low blood sugars (2.8, 3.2 etc).
I suspect the blurry vision might be related more to blood sugar levels changing than anything else. Could I be right?

Hi,

From my personal experince. Low BGs in the figures you give here (& a little lower still.) can affect my sight. Shimmering/flickering lower field of vision. Maybe a haze & light sensitivity..? One could say blurred.
Along with the cognitive symptoms too..

If you are getting BG drops using no meds for control? I'll tag in @Brunneria who may have an idea..

Hi,

Blood glucose dysregulation can certainly affect the eyes, but as I understand it, the problem could be high or low blood glucose.

For myself, even with reactive hypoglycaemia, and recurring very low blood glucose events, I have never had the lows affect my eye sight, but I have had aching eyes the day after a bad hypo.

On the other hand, I have had blurred vision from rapidly rising blood glucose, followed by rapid drops (not necessarily to hypo levels). The worst time was when I had an oral glucose tolerance test, which spiked my blood glucose very high, and then it returned to normal within a few hours (I ate before it dipped into a hypo). I had blurred vision for a couple of days after that.

On the other hand, I have heard other people (such as Jaylee above) report that hypos affect their vision with visual field disturbances similar to the ones some people get with migraines.

Unfortunately, these things seem to be very individual, and the only real way to know, is to test blood glucose whilst experiencing the symptoms. :)
