Hi, I have been diagnosed 2 months ago with type 1. I am suffering from body aches and pain for almost 4 weeks now. Its feels the same as when you have flu and pain and disconfort is wearing me thin. I am in the endo unit this week and all the dr told me is that it could be my body adjusting to whats going on now. That is not much of an answer. I was on metformin for 2 months and was taken off it on Monday. I am still using actrapid and prophane. Does anybody have similar experience and can tell me more about what causes this and how i can heal faster and how long does it normally take to go away. Thank you all reading this and for wanting to assist.

Sorry just wondering if you'd been put on a statin.

Did you loose much weight?

I wonder if your pain was due to Metformin or a particular dose of Metformin? Or has there been lots of ketones showing up on blood or urine tests?
I read that diabetics tended to lose more magnesium through the urine than non-diabetics. You could see whether your doctor might agree to some supplements and also maybe Google 'magnesium loss symptoms', perhaps not so much the severe ones but the milder ones to see whether they seem like what you are suffering from.
Keep questioning your doctor if your pains are not settling.
Otherwise allow time to heal.
And read up on all the info for diabetes on this forum and keep asking questions.
Best Wishes.

Hi Lindie. I've been dealing with body aches and pains for most of my adult life. I do have some diagnoses and some of them are treatable, but much of what is wrong with me has no treatment beyond symptom relief.

I think the doctor is right to look first to diabetes-related changes as that is the biggest thing that has changed recently but at the same time, I think he or your GP should be running some basic blood tests for non-diabetes-related things at the very least to rule them out. I don't know what your access to GPs and specialists is like but maybe your GP can start the investigative process off?

I am under the care of 5-6 specialist departments at any one time and boy does it get confusing for them and me. So we all rely on my GP to "hover above" all the info they're working with and highlight when something may need attention.

Hope that helps.

Might be worthwhile checking your insulin - some people experience reactions to their insulin and there are choices available.

I did get terrible aches and pains when on Metformin and a statin - but as I started and stopped them in synchrony I don't know which one was responsible, or it could have been the combination.
As you have stopped the Metformin you might get some relief now - but it was not instantaneous for me - though it did start to decline quite soon afterwards.
