Hi I'm on the Omni pod pump for my insulin delivery, but am going on holiday abroad and am taking pens with me just in case something goes wrong with my pump. Problem is though that I can't remember from my dafne classes how much bolus I need to take when I eat. if for example I have eaten 2.5 carbs on a 1:1 ratio how much insulin do I need to take. Can anyone help please/

As mentioned by @Shar67, 1:10 is a rough estimate. You may be less, you may be more... You will just have to try and see how you go.

Another rough estimate is that 1u of insulin will drop your BGL by 2-3mmol/L. This will prove handy for correction doses. In the unfortunate circumstance that you need to use pens.

Work on the same I:C ratio as you do with your pump, so if you currently take 2.5u for 2.5CP's (25g of carbs) on a 1:1 ratio then you would dial up 2.5u on a pen and see if it works or needs adjusting.

My own I:C ratio's haven't change much after moving to a pump but basal has decreased by a few units.

Hi @cubacarol
welcome to the forum :)

you can contact Ypsomed ( omnipod peeps ) and they will provide you with a spare PDM to take on your hols.
it comes fully packaged and sealed -- so deffo put it in your hold luggage to avoid the security peeps breaking the seal.
if you return it after your hols as delivered to you they won't charge for "borrowing" it.

i would suggest you use the same I:C ratio as in your Omnipod pump PDM - I myself am on 1 unit per 4 carbs in the morning and 1 unit per 5 carbs the rest of the day .

hope you have a lovely holiday !!!

Hi, when I've had to use a pen I calculate in my pump bg & carbs and inject the amount displayed on the pump, obviously this wouldn't work if the pump wasn't on but that's how I've done it once or twice in the past.
It is worth knowing your carb ratios as although 1:10 is a good starting point it's unlikely that's your rate all of the time, I personally have 5 different ratios on my pump throughout the day and they are noted in my phone should my pump break.
