Hi folks,

It’s been a while since I posted here, anyway a quick question how does one bolus for a meal that contains a good amount of fats say macro’s like this

59g Carbs 51g Fat 65g Protein

So yesterday I bolused for the usual carb amounts then went low, probably due to the fats, (i fancied some BBQ Halloumi cheese) and rebounded high most probably once the insulin ran out and then the carbs kicked in later on.

Thanks in advance...

Short answer is "split bolus".
I only consider the carbs but I take one dose before I eat and another a couple of hours later.
The timing and the split is worked out through trial and error.
I would start with 50% before the meal and 50% two hours later. Then lots of testing (or Libre checking) and tweak the next time you have the same meal.

Cheers, when you say 50% before do you mean right before the food or the usual 10-20 mins before you actually consume?

Agree with @helensaramay. Higher fat = split bolus.
I had curry and rice for tea last night and had half just before eating and half around 2 hours after - basically thru experience with eating rice. I do the same with pizza
