Hi guys. Help appreciated. I've just started bolusing for meals. I've been carb counting for months, so that part is easy, but LCHF doesn't seem to fit the 1:10 ratio picture simply, because my meals are very low carb. (I'm starting out at 1:10 and seeing how it goes.)
So I have two questions.
1) about how much insulin to take, given that carbs are a very small part of the total meal, compared to fat and protein.
Breakfast is usually some kind of eggs, plus some veg from the night before. Eg today, scrambled eggs with butter and cheese, plus some braised celery leftovers. Or an omelette with feta, a little bit of onion, a cherry tomato, plus some lettuce. Both of those would be roughly 3 g carb, 25g protein. I've been taking 2u for that, on the grounds of counting half the protein as additional carb, plus it's quite a substantial meal if you look at it on the plate. Obviously carb is only a tiny part of the meal.
Similarly, supper is often about 10g carb (veg) and 30g ish of protein in meat or fish, plus say 20g fat. And I've taken 2u for that, on grounds of allowing for half the protein as well.
It seems to work, in that one and a half hours afterwards my BG is within 0.5 mmol of where it was before eating. Am not Libre-ing at the moment, so just taking BG measures.
But is this a good basic method?
Qu 2) is about timing. If I'm bolusing mainly for protein and fat, when do I take the NovoRapid? I've been taking it about half an hour before eating. But should I take it later? Or should I take half early and half later?
I had a Libre sensor on last week, but it was one of the useless ones, and then came off on day 8. So not much help there.
