Hi All
I’ve been thinking about my risk factors recently and was curious what others thought.
Both my siblings received a type 2 diagnosis in their 50’s, one was obese and the other has been known for years in the family as the chocoholic. Appeared a healthy weight but did have the pot belly and chocolate was a standard gift whenever they were thought of! Several energy drinks were consumed on the daily.
However, neither of my parents have had diabetes. My father, now 77, still clear. There are some others in the family who are also diabetic.
I had always assumed that since both my siblings developed it, it was a “when” and not “if” for me unless I changed my lifestyle. I’m early 30’s. Now I’m not so sure.
I find it strange that both siblings developed it for a start, but especially so that neither parent had it.
What are my chances? Obviously I can never know 100% but curious about others family history etc. It seems to be almost impossible to develop type 2 without the genetic link - but I could be wrong.
