Can my friend drink boveril. He was just told he has diabetes. He doesnt know what type yet and he hasnt seen a dietician yet.He loves boveril. Can he still drink boveril. Can he use honey in his tea.I read somewhere that he can have honey and it is good for his diet.ATB Ray

Bovril is fine - would leave off the honey though - not really good for us daibetics- if he has to have drinks sweetened best to use sweeteners or try and wean himself off - I love Boveril too!

Are you sure about the honey.I read that over a few weeks it lowers sugar levels. I typed in honey and diabetics and honey was a yes and a good thing.

Hiya, I use honey but only half a teaspoon, I drizzle it over toast, banana, nectarines, [ have it microwaved then small dollop of reduced fat creme fraiche ] or best of all for me is honey n lemon slices n hot water drinks. It is safe for me tested n BS stays at same level. We also have food n diet pages with heaps of ideas, recipes, suggestions on to help you along with your friend. Anna.x :)

thanks Anna,my friend is 60 and he can hardly use a mobile phone. The doctor told him to get a book in the chemist. He did but he cant understand most of it.

For me, Honey is better than sugar, but still bad. If you're friend can find an artificial sweetener that he likes (an not one of the dodgy ones!) he should sub that for sugar/honey.

Bovil is all good, though. Love it.

Aww bless, could you go along with your friend to next appointment n support him? you can request to see a dietician, go through all things he does n doesnt like to eat, n can cook himself easily n well. Maybe write down a list with your friend and take it along with you when you go to the next appointment I myself actually did this due to the fact I am a fussy finnicky eater. Also ask for a blood glucose testing monitor as a diabetic it is so important to self test your blood glucose levels, then your friend will know what is happening n can relate n tie it in with what foods raise the glucose in the body. Hope this helps you and your friend. Anna.x :)

Thanks everyone, he is delighted I have found this forum. The releif when I told him about the boveril. He will use very little honey untill he finds a substitute. They are very good suggestions Anna.I will let him know to do a list.He is only starting this journey. He has an appointment with the doc to tell him what type and I told him to get his doc to set up a dietician aswell. My friend only understands plain English and not all these fancy words of docs and that.

Boveril Not so good if he also suffers from Gout its best to avoid foods that are high in purines

Yes: If you have Diabetes you are more likely to suffer from Gout attacks ?
