Hi I've recently started the low carb plan and although I feel I'm doing quite well I really miss bread! Is there any commercial brand that is high protein? I remember buying one a few years ago but can't find it now.

I occasionally have a slice of HiLo bread which I get in Sainsburys. I keep it in the freezer as its £2 for a small loaf. 5g carbs per slice, I think, but do check

Do check what it does to your bg, some find flour is as bad as sugar

Yeah bread is quite good as it is long lasting so if your on a died you might not need to eat as much throughout the day.

For an insulin resistant type 2 bread is a poor choice that will almost always result in a significant bgl rise.

As most of us try to manage with diet (or as close to as we can manage to avoid a worsening of our insulin resistance) and many do not use insulin it’s worth checking what type the poster and considering if their needs will be the same as yours. In this case it’s unlikely. Type 1 and 2 are quite different conditions in their underlying problem and need to be approached with different options.

For me it's less about "high protein" and more about "low carb". I order rolls that are 2g carb online and they work OK as a bread substitute. No idea what the protein content is.

I buy (and eat!) LivLife low carb bread from Waitrose. £2, the slices are small, and from memory 3.9g carbs per slice. It's quite a nutty bread and satisfies the urge - a slice is about the size of a pre-cut cheddar cheese slice, so makes good little sandwich or cheese on toast, depending on your carb tolerance, (I can do 25-30g at lunch or tea), or a single slice with peanut butter is a great snack, feels 'normal' and doesn't raise my BG.

I bake my own sourdough bread with millet, sorghum, arrowroot, brown rice flour and psyllium husk. It's hearty and filling. Even so, it will spike my sugars. To combat that, I take 500mg metformin HCL in addition to my insulin.
