soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I'm bad at getting up in the mornings. Never want to unwind from that duvet. However, I go to Aqua exercises twice a week and walking groups 2 - 3 times a week, so by the time I crawl out and get washed and dressed, I have to eat on the run.
In the "olden days", I'd have had a slice of toast, now I keep sliced cold meats in the fridge. I shop at Lidl and my current favourites are "wafer thin sliced salami" and sliced smokded sausage, either pork or turkey. about 50g of any of these is as near as makes no difference carb free. and it keeps me going, through exercise, until coffee at about 11:00.
I am not usually hungry on the low carb eating plan. If I feel hungry and think back, I'll realise I'll have eaten near enough nothing for a long time.
Please why aren't I skinny??? :?

Hana, I've been pondering this one too. Although I've lost over 3st since diagnosis and changing to low-carb, I remain 15st 6lbs at 5'10" size 18-20 (my bum has a lot to answer for). In my late teens and early 20's, I weighed almost 12st, was a size 12-14 and super fit thanks to my stint in the army. I ate huge, but my exercise level obviously kept me that size. My BMI is 30 but I don't hold much respect for BMI's.

I'm only guessing, but maybe this is it. My body is not supposed to be any smaller. I'm certainly no shapeless blob and I 'look' slim but sturdy. I hypothesize that the standard definitions we have all been fed over the years of what constitutes 'normal' are based on that diet we all used to eat before diagnosis. Take the waist size and risk of heart attack line. I can't remember the actual figure, I think it's about 35 inches or above increases the chances. Maybe it depends more on our BS being under control more than actual waist size.
I only wish I had kept details of my body shape, size and bloodwork before I started this journey. Would have been very interesting to compare.

How long have you been the same weight Hana?

Could it be genetics, until diagnosis I ate whatever I wanted without having problems with my weight, rest of my family are the same.

Slim Graham :D

I dropped from over 16 stone( nearly 16 1/2 in July2007 to just on 14 stone about 3 months ago. since when I've been stuck and even bounced back a few pounds, but got that off. I'm 5 feet 7 and 61 years old. If I didn't have a disproportionately large bust, I'd be a size 18. I am in trousers, but jumpers and tops I'm a 22 -24.
That waist measurement was something like 39. I remember that, because it's bigger than I am. When I was young, I weighed 10 stone 3 and in todays sizes would have been an8/10 bottom and 12 top. the sizes have changed so much. I did wear a 12 in trousers then. However a modern 12 has a 30 inch waist and when I was young, a 12 had a 25 inch waist. As a young woman, I don't think I knew anyone who had a waist bigger than 30 inches. One of my classmates at school had an 18 inch waist. she was tiny, under 5 feet tall.

Could be genetics, until I had my son I weighed 8 1/2 stone (5 ft 8) and was in size 8 - 10 trousers (took after my dad - 6 ft 2 and built like a lamppost :D ). It crept up over the years until I was 13 stone and size 16. (took after my mum - 5 ft 6 and size 24 eek) Now I've lost over a stone and my side profile is unnervingly like my dad's - if anyone else says to me "don't you look like your dad" i'm going to scream!

I suppose some of it is genetics, and when you’re diabetic that somewhat limits the foods you can eat, so obviously following any kind of a diet is a harder thing to do. Exercise is essential. I think, also, you have to be aware that a lot of low carb things like salami or many kinds of cheese are very high in fat. That might be a reason for slow or no weight loss.
