Good Morning. Is anyone aware if that most wonderful of things MARMITE is ok to have? It's one of a limited number things I just couldn't do without!

The problem is not the marmite, but what you spread it on.
That's my problem with Vegimite, at least I have cut down my bread intake by 50% to two slices a day. I need something in my guts to keep my morning intake of medication to sit on.

The only way that you will know is if you test your blood sugars before and two hours afterwards.
There are some breads that people find acceptable, it is an individual response.

I have a good friend from Australia and she pretty much put me in a headlock and made me try vegemite. I am sorry but I just cannot wrap my brain around that stuff :wideyed::yuck::stop:

Weatabix are 100% carb so best kept to one biscuit but use the meter to check and would that be within any daily carb target you've set yourself?

Right-set a carb target. A bit new at this so will have to do a bit more research into carbs. At the moment I'm focussed on the sugar aspect and getting fibre etc in my diet. Clearly a trip to the low carb diet forum is needed. Many thanks for your reply

All carbs turn into glucose in the body so its not really about "sugar" per se . I try to eat only foods that are 5g of carb per 100g or less (or should that be fewer).
That info should be on the label. It usually means you can miss out complete aisles of the supermarket which show just how much carbohydrate is in our food these days. The cereals one would definitely be one of those..

Checking labels certainly makes you more aware of the rubbish people eat. I sometimes feel that most of the supermarket is off limits.

Well - sugar is actually just a type of carbohydrate and our bodies end up turning them all into glucose so you need to watch carb content in all its forms!

Having said that when I was diagnosed I did more of less what you did, and cut right down on my sugar consumption, but a few weeks later when I realised that it was actually all carbs I should be watching (and not just sugar as I'd been told by my diabetes nurse!) I cut out the starchy stuff as well.

Robbity

PS Meat, fish, poultry, dairy, fruit, veggie, and nut aisles/shelves are all within our diabetic supermarket safety limits!
