Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a carb free breakfast that can be made and eaten within about 15-20mins. I usually have weetabix but have a hunch that my BGs will play nicer if I eat less carbs in a morning ( i think its because my back ground takes a while to kick in!).
I wouldn't really have time for bacon and eggs every morning so any suggestions would be appreciated!

Half a grapefruit = 6g to 8g carbs I love the red grapefruits

Warning
but they cant be eaten by those taking statins
 
I eat a full fat Greek (Total) joghurt for breakfast. It contains 5.4 carbs and really fills me up. I sprinkle sweetner and cinnamon on it. Sometimes I mix 25g chopped nuts and pumpkin, sunflower and flax seeds into it (2.6g carbs)) when I've got time.
 
i really should try grapefruit! i don't think i've tried it since i was about 7(when i thought it was horrible!)!! thanks.

The yoghurt is a good idea too, i might have to go shopping now!

Think outside the box.
I had leftover lamb casserole last week.

2 eggs, scrambled or as an omelette, will certainly keep you going until lunch time. They're a good food now, so no need to worry about eating too many.

Also outside the box - cold meat or chicken or hardboiled egg, plus slices of pepper and small toms and radishes - whatever you like - prepared the night before. Take out of the fridge, put them on the side with some mayo, and just grab a piece each time you pass.

Cold chicken salad is amazing as a breakfast - really fresh and refreshing.

I am an egg and bacon girl myself .............. but I cheat! This is not for everyone, but I do just fine - I just don't have the time each morning to make fresh;

Every Sunday evening I make 3 omlette each from 4 eggs + a little double cream - they are folded in half and cut in half, giving me 6 nice portions of omelet approx 2 eggs each.

I lightly fry a pack of back back and pile on top.

Every morning I take a portion of omlet + a slice of bacon and heat lightly in the microwave oven, but not on full heat (approx 70% for 90 secs), whilst I toast a slice of Nimble Wholemeal and make my coffee. That keeps me going great until lunchtime.

Then on the weekends, I have freshmade breakfast - but I do just fine with the "fast food" edition during the week.

The extra bacon and piece of omelet make a great quick meal in the week if I am caught out working late'ish or for a "snack-type dinner" at work if I am going out straight from work. Then I have some cheese chuncks with me for an interval snack.

Just thought I would share, as I got this idea from another low carber when I was a "newbie".

I had a great breakfast this morning. some left over salad, a cooked chicken thigh two teaspoons of cottage cheese and some parma ham. It was lovely.

I was looking at parma ham yesterday (something I dont generally buy.) It has very minimal carbs as far as I could see. I was thinking that next time I think Ill boil 2 eggs. cut in half and wrap each in a piece of parmaham and top with sour cream or mustard mayo or something.

just a thought.

I have trouble facing breakfast. My sugar levels tend to be high when I wake up - (dont know why - I dont snack in the night) the result is I feel slightly sick when I wake.
I have half a grapefruit preferably a red one - they seem so much juicer. Or a bowl of live yogurt - unsweetened with berries Trouble is I tend to get very peckish around 11:30.

Have a protein-based snack when you get peckish around 11:30 - protein and fat keep you feeling fuller for longer.

I tried that this morning. After a short bike ride I had a couple of slices of bacon and a new laid egg cooked in the microwave - no bread
I think you may be the Viv who posted the modified Atkins diet? If so thanks a million I started the diet - 3 days ago and my BG has dropped down to the teens - BIG improvement considering I was off the scale last Sunday.

Yep, that's me - I'm glad 'modified Atkins' seems to be working for you and it will, if you persevere. I'm losing weight more slowly this time 'cos of insulin resistance, I think, but my HbA1c dropped from 6.5 to 5.6 within 3 months of being diagnosed, and my bgs are now almost at non-diabetic levels mostly, except for my first morning reading which is always my highest!

Kepp us up to date with your progress. My next blood tests are on Jun 20th, and I'm hoping they're going to be fine. They should be!

I was upset this morning because my BG had gone up to 20 after a day yesterday in the teens. I assumed that waking BG levels would be low and could not understand why I was so high.

Just goes to show that assume makes an ass of u & me :lol:

When I visited Holland, I had the best breakfasts ever. Thinly sliced real ham (which hardly exists in the UK) and thin slices of Dutch cheeses.

For some reason I can face this sort of breakfast in the mornings but can't bring myself to eat anything other than these. So at home now, I just eat a couple of slices of cheese.
 
How about a breakfast BLT.

Toasted slice of burgen bread. Layer of lettuce, layer of tomatoes, some salad cream of mayo and topped off with 2 or 3 rashers of bacon. I have it once per week----great.
 
I absolutely love fresh grapefruit & also grapefruit juice, but the specialist nurse that I see regarding my diabetes type 2, tells me that grapefruits are strictly a no-no. How come some of the folk on the forum say that they are eating them, presumably without any ill effects?
 
H was also told to avoid grapefruit especially as i was taking statins. If I wanted to drink grapefruit it was a maximum of 100ml. I dont think half a grapefruit would cause any major problems as long as you didnt put sugar on it.
