Breastfeeding

Hello All,

Is it ok to go on low carb and intermediate fasting while breast feeding..

When breastfeeding my two I ate freely of low carb foods - no restriction on the amount, but when badgered to eat high carb low fat foods I got a perpetually hungry child, all day and all night, wailing every two hours frantic to be fed and I had to give up due to the damage done to me.
Fasting is not a good idea, nor is any restriction other than high carb foods - but be prepared for strong active inquisitive babies who grow up tall and energetic, and far too clever.

Thanks you

I would be concerned about someone fasting for more then 18hr while breastfeeding, maybe limiting fasting to 12hr a day.

For low carb see

Personally I think aiming for about 130g of carbs a day to start with is a good option, then use your BG meter to see if any meals peak your BG. However as there is a drop in BG from breastfeeding, maybe try to feed your baby after each meal before measuring your BG. You are aiming to limit the increase in your BG between before the meal and 2hr after the meal to be under 2 (UK units).

Usually 12 hrs fasting always happen as I get up little late from my bed. Thanks for your post.
